For a while I have thought that the 1st car hire company to master electric vehicle hire will be a big success. When Robert Llewelyn profiled EVision on Fully Charged I got a bit excited, here it is, reasonably priced electric vehicle hire. Brilliant.
I got even more excited when I realised that although EVision only had 4 sites, one of them was about a 20 minute bike ride from my house, at Diggerland in Langley Park, West of Durham. So, we hired an EV for a weekend, decided to explore a road trip we had been thinking about for a while, and set off on the Southern side of the Northumberland 250.
It was half day out, half low carbon experiment. Could we drive roughly 250 miles in an EV without much hassle or worry….?
Almost running out of battery in a BMW i3 on the Northumberland 250 – Low Carbon Lifestyle Ep27
Thanks to Osprey and Podpoint chargers I think we proved that we could.
And the BMW i3, although looking fairly…. odd…. is a great little car, that flies!!! When you put your foot down.
So, I recommend EVrent.co.uk / EVision. I recommend an i3 (and suspect there are a few 2nd hand ones knocking around), AND, I challenge you, next time you have a long trip, or need a car hire… try out an electric car, from EVision or elsewhere (if you can find one).

And come back next week on some thoughts on EV leasing….
